How the Format Deck works

The idea

A format is the shape of a joke with the jokes taken out: "Nobody: / Me:", a fake headline, a new word with a made-up definition. Pick a shape, put your own idea in the blanks, and the structure does some of the work for you. The Format Deck gives you the shape. The joke is still yours.

Pick a format

The top card is the one on the table. Deal another card (or press the Space bar) swaps it for a random one.
Below it, every format is listed. Filter by category or search, then tap one to put it on the table.

Fill it in

Each card explains how the format works and gives you a blank for each part you write.
Type in the blanks and your post builds itself underneath. Empty blanks show up highlighted. If a blank appears twice in the post, you only type it once.
The counter shows how many characters the post has so far, out of Bluesky's limit of 300.

Post it

Copy post copies the text. Any blank you left empty is copied as its label in curly brackets, so you can see it.
Open in Bluesky opens the Bluesky composer on bsky.app with your text already in it. Your text goes to bsky.app only when you tap that button. If you use another app or site, such as Blacksky or Northsky, use Copy post instead.

Good to know

Everything runs in your browser. No sign-in, and nothing is sent to this site. Your blanks are saved on this device only, so you can come back to a half-finished post. Clear blanks wipes them for the card on the table.
